⁵⁵ “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son?^(A) Isn’t his mother’s^(B) name Mary, and aren’t his brothers^(C) James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? ⁵⁶ Aren’t all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?” ⁵⁷ And they took offense^(D) at him.

But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town and in his own home.”^(E)

² But when the Jewish Festival of Tabernacles^(A) was near, ³ Jesus’ brothers^(B) said to him, “Leave Galilee and go to Judea, so that your disciples there may see the works you do. ⁴ No one who wants to become a public figure acts in secret. Since you are doing these things, show yourself to the world.” ⁵ For even his own brothers did not believe in him.^(C)

²¹ When his family^[a] heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”^(A)

³ Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph,^[a] Judas and Simon?^(A) Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.^(B)

⁴ Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.”^(C)

⁷ Then he appeared to James,^(A) then to all the apostles,^(B)

To those who have been called,^(C) who are loved in God the Father and kept for^[a] Jesus Christ:^(D)

¹⁷ Peter motioned with his hand^(A) for them to be quiet and described how the Lord had brought him out of prison. “Tell James^(B) and the other brothers and sisters^(C) about this,” he said, and then he left for another place.

¹³ When they finished, James^(A) spoke up. “Brothers,” he said, “listen to me.
